I will never have so much compassion as the girl in in Phnom Penh.
She was sitting in front of me in the street restaurant of the Happy Guest House in the capital of Cambodia. It was August 25th, 1992. She was approximately 5 Jahre years old. Her hair was disheveled and she was wearing a red dress. I invited her for lunch when she was collecting paper and cartoons in the streets. I did not want to give her money, because I was afraid, that she need to hand over the money in the evening.
While the girl was eating, a young woman came from the street to our table and asked for money. I was not able to react fast enough. The Cambodian girl took a 50 Riel coin out of her pocket and gave it to the woman.
The immediate compassion of the 5-year-old-girl is impressing me until today.
I want to help, that life for some people is getting a little bit better. From the benefits I received I want to give something back to people who entered into an emergency situation.
